There are a lot of polderboards in the Netherlands - but the flag of this one is outstanding IMO.
A black flag with a white whale, with in the canton the CoA of Ameland was proposed, but not accepted.
Description: black with a white whale, the taile raised; in the square canton with 5/12 flagheight a. yellow with three black diagonal bars. b. blue charged with a white turned crescent.
The Mandatories of the polderboard "De Amelander Grieën" decided 14 Jun 1990 to adopt a flag: "blue, with a white whale, spouting red, swimming towards the hoist, the tail raised; a yellow hoist of 1/5 flaglength, charged with three black diagonal bars".
The whale represents the whaling which was in past centuries quite important for Ameland; the red fountain signifies that the whale was wounded. the cantons contain the Amelander arms.
Wimpel: a square blue hoist, charged with a white crescent pointing to the right, and a white fly with three green "pompebledden" (waterlilyleaves) placed at a distance of a leaf, ending in a "spitswimpelvlucht" (whatever that means).
