Asahi city Chiba adopted its emblem on 29 October 2005
A stylized a of Asahi; blue stands for sea and green for rich natures
no flag legislation but they use above flag as practice.
flag proportion: 2:3; colour of field: white; colour of emblem: blue and green; diameter of emblem: 3/5 of flag height
Source: Asahi website (in Japanese)The emblem displays the new Asahi (meaning morning sun) city's future image of radiant people and growing wholesome sea and greenery(?). In the "a" motif, the blue represents the sea, the green abundant nature and the whole silhouette expresses the citizens full of healthy vigour amongst that nature and the blessings of the earth and the town with energy leaping towards the future.
According to city website (in Japanese),
the emblem was chosen from 658 entries to a nationwide competition open
from 5 August to 15 September. The winning design was chosen by 2 meetings
of a 7 member committee, and came from Yoshiaki Abe of Fukuoka. Three
other designs (by Ryushiro Murakami(?) of Funabashi, Chiba; Takeshi Sugou
of Ichihara, Chiba; and Yuichi Ishibashi of Sousa, Chiba) were selected for
an excellence award. The emblem is now used on the city flag and
envelopes, other printed matter, etc.
