The flag was adopted by notice 18. Two sizes are specified for the flag: 140cm x 210cm and 90cm x 135cm, neither of which are consistent with the ratio 7:10 which is given. The emblem, adopted 1 Oct 1971 Notice 14, incorporates stylised katakana tsuga ツガ to form a circle, symbolising unity of the townspeople, with line through the top of the circle and two wings, indicating unlimited progress and development.
