The last issue of the municipal bulletin of Versailles has a
colour picture of the gonfalon of Caserta (Italy). The cities of
Versailles and Caserta have recently established friendly
relationships. The palace of Caserte, then in the kingdom of the
two Sicilies, was built by the architect L. Vanvitelli on the
model of the palace of Versailles between 1752 and 1773.
Versailles and Caserta plan to create a network of European royal
and imperial cities. Caserta is now a province capital of ca.
65,000 inhabitants located in the North of Naples. The German
forces in Italy surrendered in Caserta in 1945.
The gonfanon is a 8:5 flag, vertically divided blue-red. The
gonfanon is charged with the Coat of Arms of
Caserte with the writing CITTA' DI CASERTA in an arc of golden
letters above the coat of arms.

The Coat of arms of the 'comune' of Caserta is from <www.caserta.peoples.it>.
Caserta is in the region of Campania (made famous by Hannibal).
