Description

Tirat ha-Carmel (meaning Carmel's castle / palace) is situated between Mount Carmel and the seashore just south of Haifa. Est. 1948 and has 20,000 inh.

In my visit on 3 september 2001, I did not see any flag above the city hall. However, a municipal emblem on a white flag was spotted above another municipal building. The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot), YP 690, 30 July 1959, for the then Local Council Tirat ha-Carmel.

Dov Gutterman, 9 September 2001

Mr. Shmuel Katoni, city clerk, told me:

  • the official name is now Tirat Carmel, replacing former names Tira and Tirat ha'Carmel;
  • the Local Council was proclaimed on 1 Febuary 1951 (KT 153).
