Description

The city of Qiryat Ata uses as flag an emblem with dark blue letters, taking half the size of a white flag, proportions 2:3.

Dov Gutterman, 15 April and 15 May 1999

There are two types of flags, differing in the size of the logo. Consistent in using blue on white. Qiryat Ata (a.k.a. Kiryat Ata) is situated in the east part of Zvulun Valley, 13 km NE of Haifa. Pop. 50,000. Est. 1925, it became a city in 1969 after the joining of two settlements, Kfar Ata and Qiryat Benyamin.

Dov Gutterman, 11 July 2001

In 1965 two small settelments, Kfar Ata (est. 1925) and Qiriat-Benyamin were united into one Local Council to be named Qiryat Ata. Situated in the east side of the Zvulun valley, 13 km NE of Haifa, it is named after the Arabic name of the area Kafar a'ata and still keeps the emblem showing the long gone 'ATA Textile' factory, previously the main source of income for the population. It became a municipality in 1969 and has 50,000 inh.

Previously I reported two variants of the unofficial municipal flag, differing in the size of the emblem, but on the city hall there were only two small-emblem flags. The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot), YP 1666, 16 October 1970. It replaced the previous emblems of Kfar Ata, published YP 770, 16 June 1960, and of Qiriat Benyamin, published YP 663, 16 April 1959.
