Local Council Mevasseret Zion (biblical reference to Jeshaia 40,9) is situated 10 km west of Jerusalem on the mountains (750m ASL) and near ha' Castle, a famous battle zone in the 1948 war. The Local Council was established in 1964 by uniting two temporary settlements of new immigrants (Ma'oz Zion A and B, est. early 1950s) and Mevasseret Yerushalayyim (est. 1956). 20,000 inh.
The flag has been reported as an emblem on various colours but needs confirmation. The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot), 'Publications Gazette' section (Yalkut ha'Pirsumim), YP 1715, 22 April 1971.
