Description

Givatayim is situated in thr centre of Gush-Dan just east of Tel-Aviv and south of Ramat Gan. It was established in 1922, becoming a Local Council in 1942 and a municipality in 1959. It has 55,000 inh. and its name (meaning two hills) came from the hills which it was built upon.

The municiplity answered none of my three enquiries, but on 26 August 2001 I was nearby and I went to the municipality to see the municipal flag. This is quite unorthodox for an Israely municipality, since it is not a logo-on-bedsheet flag. Horizontal green-white-green (1:3:1) with the emblem in the centre. There was not enough light but the emblem seems to be only outlined in black, not the natural colours one that can be seen in the municipal website. Sources: author's observation on 21 August 2001 and municipal website.

The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot), YP 1861, 28 September 1972. It replaced the previous and quite similar emblem of the Local Council Givatayim, published YP 633, 13 November 1958.
