Description

Arad is situated in the border of Judea desert, 25 km west from the Dead Sea and 37 Kms east of Be'er Sheva, just next to the famous Massada (Metzada) Mount. Est. 1962 and has 27,000 inh. Named after a Biblical town located in Tel-Arad.

The flag of Arad is a logo on white as implied from the tiny flag on a photo at the city website. The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot, Yalkut ha-Pirsumim), YP 1277, 19 May 1966, for the then Local Council Arad.

I received a letter from municipality with the correct emblem, showing minor colour differences from the one in the city website. The flame represents the gas found in the area and the hill represents Mount Kidod (600 m) which the town is built upon. Sources: letter from Ms. Shula Shokaty, city spokesman secretary, 11 September 2001; desk flag.

The flag is really emblem on light blue with inscription in Hebrew (above) and English (below). Source: author's own observation, 17-19 June 2003.
