Image based on a photo taken Vas Népe daily newspaper of
yesterday. Coat of Arms from the Vas County Atlas.
From the atlas: "The small settlement with a population of
500 was settled on a height near the Széplaki Brook. It is the
birthplace of Cardinal József Mindszenty, Primate of Hungary. In
1992 the villagers had a bust erected in his memory at Main
Square, and a memorial room was also established in his native
house. The name of the village first appeared in a document from
1342, when the village's name giving church built on a mound had
already been standing for some time. Outside the village in the
so-called Poty field stands Mesterházy Mansion originally built
in Baroque style, but later remodelled in eclectic style in
1878."
Mindszent means in English: All Saints.
