Overview

Vének is a small village in Győr-Moson-Sopron County in Hungary near to the City of Győr (17 km north) in the Szigetköz Island of the Danube. The village has got 158 inhabitants (1990 census), nearly all of them are Hungarians. Neighbouring settlements are: Győr city, Gönyű and Kisbajcs villages in Hungary, Trávnik (Füss) and Čičov (Csicsó) villages in Slovakia. In 1910 Vének was a village in the Tószigetcsilizközi district of Győr County. Number of inhabitants in 1910: 274; 274 (100,0%) Hungarian by mother tongue, 273 (99,6%) Roman Catholic and 1 (0,4%) other by religion.

Description of the coat of arms: The shield is quartered, and the 4th field is divided by two silver stripe. In the first field there is St John of Nepomuk saving the settlement of the fishermen and shipmen. In the second field there is an anchor relates to the shipmen living here from 1240. In the third field there is a mill-wheel relates to the old ship mills on the Danube. The two silver stripes of the fourth field relate to the Danube and the Mosoni Danube (this is a small arm of the river), and the fish relates to the fishing of the last centuries and now.
