The Community of Maruevec, Varadin County, 7,000
inhabitants, though the village of the same name has only about
500 of them. About 15 km south-west of Varadin
, it is among the territorialy largest communities in the County.
The official gazette of the Counyt issued the "Decision on
the description of the coat of arms and the flag of the Community
and the conditions and modes of the grant of their use: Odluka o
opisu grba i zastave Opcine Maruevec i uvjetima i nacinu

The coat of arms is: or a lily-of-the-valley stalk proper with
two leaves vert. The lily-of-the-valley (Convallaria majalis L.)
locally named durdica or durdevak blosoms in easrly spring
(april) and is, as name suggests connected with the St. George
Day. The legend states that the palace was developed around the
castle of the same name that was built by a noble women
Marua who allegedly came here from the Czech lands. The
first mention of the owner of the casetl is one Grgor of
Maruevac, who mentiones the place near the St. George's
church in 1351.
The flag is green in ratio 1:2, with the coat of arms bordered
yellow set in the middle of the flag.
