Kijevo is a community in the ibenik-Knin County, 50 km
north-east of ibenik. The Croats formed a community
(upa) in Kijevo as soon as they reached the regions, as it
is mentioned already in 777 within the Livno County. Today it is
a small village with about 1,200 inhabitants, and most of the
inhabitant of the community lives in there.
The Coat of Arms of Kijevo is azure a ruined
church or. It is the church of St. Salvator (Sv. Spas),
originating from 9th century, with the oldest remaining belfry in
Croatia vitnessing the Frankish influence on the christianization
of Croats.
Almost identical coat of arms picturing the same church (gules a
ruined church argent masoned sable) was used by neighbouting city
of Vrlika (in the Split-Dalmatia County). I suppose that the
church was on its territory earlier ad in some territorial reform
was given to Kistanje, but I may be wrong. as it appears Vrlika
does not use the coat of arms any more, which may indicate that
my assumptions may be right.
The flag is red with yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle.
There is also a Ceremonial Flag in form of red
golfanon with three tails, the middle one longer, all three
ending triangulary and all containing yellow floral ornament and
fringe along bottom. The coat of arms is in the middle and the
name of the community above it in two arhces.
