Croatian Air Force Units Flag

by Zeljko Heimer

This is the flag of Croatian Air Forces (Hrvatsko Ratno Zrakoplovstvo), as the flag of the unit (and not "air force ensign"). It consists of the AF badge - the winged square, above the state coat of arms and circular ribon with the name of the "unit".

Aircraft Marking - Overview

Military Aircraft Insignia of the World [cos98] report the Croatian Air Force (HRZ - Hrvatsko Ratno Zrakoplovstvo) roundel for 1991-1994 as the Croatian Coat of Arms on fuselage and wings and national flag as fin flash as seen at <www.skytamer.com>. See also <www.insigniamag.com> and <www.acig.org>. Note that another image in this Insignia site carry only the Croatian Army emblem (<www.insigniamag.com/utva6.jpg>) while another one has only the national flag (<www.insigniamag.com/cess21.jpg>). Also there one image with Yugoslav-like tail at <www.acig.org>.
I guess that during the "rough times" of 1991, there was no time for standartizations, so variants of all kind appear.
Nevertheless, [cos98] report that in 1994 a new Roundel was adopted. It reported correctly as two red diagonal squared on blue disc, but its image is reversed in colors.....Yugoslav-like tail insignia is used. See <www.skytamer.com> which it is titled as 1994-present (?).
[cos98] stops here, but there was another change when the tail insignia was replaced by the Coat of Arms. At <www.skytamer.com> there is no date for this change. Same insignia also reported at <dragan.freeservers.com>.
Few photos with this insignia: <www.airliners.net/543977>, <www.airliners.net/141207> and <www.airliners.net/278864>. For more symbols and photos see <www.yuairwar.com>.
For the article in Insignia about Croatia and Bosnia 1991-1997 see <www.insigniamag.com>.

The blue disk with red squares, as described is only correct - the image in [cos98] is just an error and nothing else.
