Overview

Grožnjan (Italian name: Grisignana) is a community in northwesterd part of Istria on a hill over the Mirna river valley. Community totals under 1,000 inhabitants, the ancient town having less the 200.
Grožnjan uses its historical Coat of Arms, recently adopted in graphically modernized version. In an oval shield azure a arm proper issuant from siniter holding a fleur de lis slipped argent and issuant from the canton a sun or and in base a mount argent. The flag is vertical, blue bordered golden with teh coat of arms bordered white off-set to the top. A flag with swallowed tail is also used, possibly as a Ceremonial Flag. As for now there is no report on the "usual" horizontal flag without the border - since the place is so small, it is quite possible that they would need not (yet?) an other version of the flag and such may have never been made. However, I find it quite plausible that such flag would be prescribed and confirmed by the Ministry and that the golden-bordered versions are either the ceremonial or "semi-official" versions. This is visible at <www.tz-groznjan.hr> as Tomsilav reported. It may be indicative that yet an other flag from NW aprt of istria include the golden border...
