Overview

The community of Marija Bistrica is situated some 15 km northeast of Zagreb in the Krapina-Zagorje County. Population about 7,500, some 1, 000 in the village of the same name. Marija Bistrica is site of the the national pigrimage to the Mother of God, few years ago visited by Pope John Paul II.
The coat-of-arms-like emblem showes in the a blue shield the Croatian cheques and the local church of the shrine. No flag reported - and there is probably not any to report - since there is slim chance such a coat of arms would be approved by the Ministry.

In the mean time the community abandoned the coat-of-arms-like emblem used in 1990's and adopted a proper coat-of-arms and a flag to go with it. I do not have the adoption dtaes, but I estimate them to year 2002.   The coat of arms is shown on this community page: <www.marija-bistrica.hr>. The info on the flag was provided by Tomsilav Šipek, who also sent me a larger image of the coat of arms from Branko Balaško.   The coat of arms of Marija Bistrica is azure the Black Maddona with Child both crowned with old Croatian crown proper stantant over a crescent argent.   The ancient Black Maddona is revered icon of the main Croatian Marian pilgrimage site at Marija Bistrica.   The flag is yellow with the coat of arms in the middle.   I wouldn't be surprised if a ceremonial flag would also exist, but at the moment I have no info on it.
