Presentation of the city

Bressuire is a city of c. 20,000 inhabitants, sous-préfecture of the departement of Deux-Sèvres. Bressuire is the capital city of the Bocage Vendéen, a rich agricultural region.

During the Wars of Vendée (1793-1795), Bressuire, ruled by Marquis de Lescure, was one of the headquarters of the Catholic and Royal Army (Armée Catholique et Royale), which fought against the Republican troops. On 14 March 1794, the city was trashed by the 'infernal columns' led by General Grignon.
