Presentation of the city

The village of Zillisheim is a member of the communauté de communes* of the Mulhouse town.

*A communauté de communes is made of municipalities that group usually around a large city (e.g., Lyon, Mulhouse or Montpellier) to share goods and services. It is not an administrative subdivision like a canton or an arrondissement. Most commune communities have logos, very few of them have real flags, an example being Montpellier district.

Description of the flag

The searchable archive of the Alsatian newspaper L'Alsace includes a paper from 29 October 2000, introducing the new flag of the municipality of Zillisheim.

The flag shows the municipal arms on a white field. The name of the city is written in black below the shield. The T of the arms might refer to the locality called Galgen (gallows), in the neighbouring Altenberg forest, where hanging took place in the past.

The new flag dimensions are 0.80 x 1.20 m (proportion 2:3). The flag was designed by Claude Nollinger, deputy-mayor of Zillisheim.

Before its official release in Zillisheim, the flag had already been seen during the Paris marathon, introducing the team of 14 racers sent by the village of Zillisheim.
