Flag of Giron (Azuay
prov., Ecuador), with a bit of explanation (in Spanish) at <turismogiron/bandera.htm>.
Jarig Bakker, 9 June 1999
Translated from the site:
"The flag of the [Swiss-like] Canton was created through
Municipal By-Law of 11th July 1948 and its blue and white colours
represent Ecuatorian Liberalism since Giro'n was one of the first
villages to join the official 1895 coup d'etat. The By-Law
decreed under Ricardo Torres Rivas' presidency establishes that
it [the flag] shall bear the official coat-of-arms in its central
part."
Santiago Dotor, 10 June 1999
Giron Canton was established on 26 August 1897.
