State Ensign

[State Ensign Denmark] 56:107 by Željko Heimer

The state flag defaced in the canton with a white crown. National flag red would be used here presumably, as Album des Pavillons (2000) shows.

The Flaggenbuch lists this as the ensign of the training ship "Danmark". It is the state ensign, though the crown now seems to be simplified compared to the Flaggenbuch illustration. The state ensign is used by many government departments and services (sometimes in conjunction with a departmental pennant).
Paige Herring 23 April 1998

Flaggenbuch (1939) shows this flag as used by the State Training Ship "Danmark". A white crown in the canton of the state ensign as also reported in Album des Pavillons (2000). Paige Herring reports that "the state ensign is used by many government departments and services (sometimes in conjunction with a departmental pennant)" - is this meant on ships as ensign or also on land? What would be the pennants that would go with it (that would be similar to the ice-breaker's service pennant in conjunction with the undefaced ensign).

Znamierowski (1999) reports that the State Ensign [with white crown] has been used since 1907. Is this when it was at first used on very limited ships (Flaggenbuch, 1939, mentions it being used only on the Training Ship "Danmark"), but nowadays it seems to be used more widely.
