Description

Similar to the merchant flag, but with an Iron Cross on the national flag in canton. Usage basically as its Imperial equivalent. Used from 1921-1933.

A special version of the civil ensign was introduced for captains in the naval reserve. This was the civil ensign with a black iron cross —fimbriated black and white— added to the black-red-gold canton. It was regulated in the regulation of 11 April 1921, finally in force 1 January 1922. Sources:
