Description

Quartered yellow and red, bearing the arms. Granted 7.6.1978. Both flag and arms are very similar to the Ludwigshafen flag. Sources: Debus 1988 and Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website.

Stefan Schwoon, 30 January 2001

From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The arms were granted in 1970. The arms are based on the old arms of the Landau county. The lion is the lion of the Pfalz, the cross is taken from the arms of Speyer and the grapes as well as the white fess symbolise the Weinstrasse (i.e. wine-growing in the area). The crown is taken from the arms of the district Bergzabern.

Both the Lords of the Pfalz and the Monastery of Speyer owned large parts of the area.

Literature: Stadler 1964-1971.
