When the state flag is used in a vertical form, the ox head and griffin stand upright, the ox head over the griffin. The proportion of the vertical version is not prescribed in the legal text. (...) According to the specification sheet I received from the Mecklenburg-West Pomerania government, vertical flags shall come in two different variants: the Hängeflagge (hanging flag) and the Banner (variant of hanging flag, actually). The Hängeflagge is hoisted on a horizontal flag pole from a building or directly from a window. A Banner contains a cross-bar at the top, on which it is hoisted from a normal vertical flagpole. The difference for Mecklenburg-West Pomerania flags is in the proportions: Hängeflaggen have a proportion of 2:1, but can be longer, e.g. 5:2; Banner shall usually be 10:3. This difference seems a bit artificial, as I have seen longer Hängeflaggen and shorter Banner as well, in many instances (not Mecklenburg-West Pomerania flags, though). So I send two variants of the vertical flags: the Hängeflagge in 2:1 and the Banner in 10:3.
For the vertical variants of the state flag it is noteworthy that the ox-head is above the griffin and that the position of both is determined by their distance from the upper edge of the flag. So in very long vertical flags the ox-head and griffin would be quite at the top of the flag.
