Looks like a cutout diagram for a V flag with streamers... ;-) Al Kirsch
remarked that the flag looks like a "poit". I determined
that he was referring to the "MAD Poiuyt", a strange optical
illusion, the first drawing of which in MAD magazine appeared on a cover
in the '60s.
The term "Poiuyt" can be obtained by reading from right to left
on the row containing those letter keys on your friendly local computer
keyboard. However, Al's rendering of the term as "poit" seems somehow
much funnier. Image and explanations are on quite a few web-pages.

The image reminds me of M. C. Esscher's illusions. Of course "Poiuyt"
was the MAD-answer to "Querty", used for official
typing-schools (I attended a class for a few weeks, only to find out
that it involved the most boring lessons I ever received).
