Looks like a cutout diagram for a V flag with streamers... ;-) Al Kirsch remarked that the flag looks like a "poit". I determined
that he was referring to the "MAD Poiuyt", a strange optical illusion, the first drawing of which in MAD magazine appeared on a cover in the '60s.
The term "Poiuyt" can be obtained by reading from right to left on the row containing those letter keys on your friendly local computer keyboard. However, Al's rendering of the term as "poit" seems somehow much funnier. Image and explanations are on quite a few web-pages.

The image reminds me of M. C. Esscher's illusions. Of course "Poiuyt" was the MAD-answer to "Querty", used for official
typing-schools (I attended a class for a few weeks, only to find out that it involved the most boring lessons I ever received).
