Ivan Sarajčić, 6 June 1999
The First Serbian Uprising took place in 1804-1813. Topola is the
place where Karađorđe lived and from where he led the uprising.
Karađorđe's mausoleum is in Topola (St. George's Church, Oplenac). The national archives of Serbia and Montenegro have a picture of the procession taking the earthly remains of Duke Karađorđe from the church in Topola, transferring them to the Oplenac Mount dynasty
crypt, on 8 September 1930.
The choice of the flag of Karađorđe's
troops is, therefore, appropriate for the municipality.
