Tianjin University was established as Peiyang
University in Tianjin, China in 1895; its current name dates from 1951. The flag
shown on the link was the school flag before the name change (hence the
blue-white-red tricolour of the Nationalists?). The coat-of-arms on the flag
(also before the name change) could be blazoned as: "Azure, three
castles Or between an open book Or inscribed with the Chinese motto 'Seek Truth
From Facts' Azure." The shield was placed upon a golden ornamental shield
bearing the words 'National Peiyang University' in blue on top.

The third stripe looks more orange than red to me,
corresponding with the surrounding of the azure shield. Compare it with the
square field in the middle of the flag which looks really red on my screen.

The general pattern of the current flag is the same as
Jilin University, but it has a white bar near the top and
bottom; and the shield and the school name is orange bordered white. The
shield is basically the ornamental shield of Peiyang, but merely
inscribed "Peiyang" and "1895" on it.
