Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia
Grant of Arms, Supporters and Flag
January 15, 2004
Vol. IV, p. 347
Description: A banner of the arms; Coat of arms:Argent a saltire Azure, on an escutcheon Or an apple tree Vert within a double tressure flory-counter-flory Azure; Symbolism: The blue and white are the provincial colours of Nova Scotia, and the basic design of this shield echoes the provincial arms. The double tressure on the smaller shield is based on the Royal Arms of Scotland, and can therefore be taken as a reference to the County's namesake, Queen Anne. The apple tree indicates that the Annapolis Valley is famous for producing fruit.

Halifax, Nova Scotia
Grant of Arms, Supporters, Flag and Badge
June 20, 2003
Vol. IV, p. 244
Description: A banner of the Arms; Coat of arms: Azure fretty of bendlets
Argent and bendlets sinister Or; Symbolisme:The white (heraldic silver)
represents the Tattoo's 25th anniversary. Blue and white are the colours of
Nova Scotia with the blue also evoking the Nova Scotia tartan. The gold
symbolizes the colour of many of the brass instruments played by bands which
have been part of tattoos over the years. The diagonal pattern reflects the
intricate "crossover" of musicians marching that is often a feature
of presentations. The overall pattern of diagonals is a subtle reference to
the tartans that are such a spectacular visual element of the event. Image: at
