Kwantlen University College has 4 campuses, two in Surrey, and one each in Langley and Richmond (British Columbia).

Its Coat of Arms was granted in 1999 and a banner of arms is used for a flag.

The full description of the symbols can be found at: http://www.kwantlen.ca/about_kwantlen/arms.html (Ed: Information no longer available)

The item in the centre is a piece of (quasi-)native artwork called "the spirit of Kwantlen" depicting the "Wolf Prince" and the "Salmon Princess". The four animals are 1. a lion, 2. a tiger, 3. a jaguar, and 4. a Chinese Dragon. The "Billet betressed" on the book in chief is supposed to represent a computer chip.

The college was founded in 1980 by splitting from Douglas College (who use an unfortunate flag), and was given the status of a University College in 1995, and can now grant bachelor's degrees.

I suppose the four animals are supposed to represent students coming from around the world: the lion representing Britain (and by extension, Europe) more likely than Africa, the tiger India (or South Asia), the dragon China and East Asia, that leaves the jaguar to represent the Americas as a whole, the population of Latin-American immigrants being much lower than Chinese or (East-) Indian.

It is proposed to change the name to "Kwantlen University" before the end of the 2005-2006 academic year.
