The community, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, is located on Big Trout Lake, in northwestern Ontario. It is located at 53 58' North Latitude and 90 00' West Latitude. The land base of the community is almost 30,000 hectares, located around Big Trout Lake. Population is about 1200 people. The language spoken is Oji-Cree,(Anihshiniimowin), as well as English. Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (formerly known as Big Trout Lake First Nation) is within the boundaries of the territory described by the 1929-30 Adhesion to the James Bay Treaty of 1905 - Treaty Number Nine. Full reserve status was achieved on January 1976.
