Pre-independence Flag

This is the unofficial flag that was used on land. It was adopted on February 2 1950. For a more detailed description of the flag, see the page about the current Belize flag since it's relatively the same.
Jaume Olle, 15 July 1996

According to W.Crampton in Flags of the World (1978) [cra81a], the flag, for local use on land only, was introduced in 1967.  British Honduras had achieved internal self-government in 1964 and the land flag was probably introduced in recognition of the fact that full independence had to be delayed until Guatemala's claim to the country had been resolved.

Some years ago I received information from the government of Belize. The flag for local use on land was "presented" on 2 February 1950. A picture of the flag accompained the communication, and in reverse were printed same indications.

Pre-independence Civil Flag

[Civil flag]
by Mark Sensen 1t September 1997

This is the civilian flag that was used during the same time period as the previous flag.
Jaume Olle, 15 July 1996

The preindependence unofficial flag had a variation with just empty disk for use as civil flag if the intricate flag was unavailabe. Is there now such variation with red stripes added?
