The city of Orsha in Belarus has its own flag. It is white
with two blue stripes and the coat of arms in the middle. The
ratio of the flag is 1:1,618 (golden section). The blue stripes
represent the two rivers of Orsha: Dniper and Orshitsu. Blue
symbolises water and comes also from the coat of arms. White
reminds us that Orsha belongs to Byelorussia. (byelo = white).
The colours of the coat of arms symbolise: - Blue : glory,
fidelity, greatness, honour, beauty;
- Silver (white) : cleanliness and wisdom; - Gold (yellow) :
validity, riches, magnanimity. The Cross symbolizes: courage and
heroism. The half moon is since a long time a known symbol of the
Virgin which is widely applied in christian tradition. The flag
was adopted in spring 2002.
