The flag is blue with a white cross between four white fleurs-de-lis. On a
white lozenge is the municipal coat of arms, which depicts the holy statue
of Our Lady of Aparecida above a tree and stream, the stream representing
the river in which the figure was discovered in the 17th century. Aparecida
is the foremost Marian shrine in Brazil; Nossa Senhora da Aparecida was
approved by the Vatican and crowned as Patroness and Queen of Brazil, I
believe in the early 20th century. The color blue and the fleur-de-lis are
both traditional symbols for the Virgin Mary.
