About the Flag of Araruama

The flag of Araruama is a white field with the coat of arms. The coat of arms is divided per pale; the dexter half red with an Indian cocar (normally meaning "cockade" but here apparently a headdress) surmounting crossed arrows, all representing the indigenous population; the sinister half yellow with a windmill and a mound of salt, and on a blue base a white fish, all symbolizing the traditional products of the municipality. On a silver chief are four black five-pointed stars representing the four districts of the municipality. The scroll carries the name between the dates 1859 (creation of the original settlement of São Sebastião de Araruama) and 1890 (its elevation to city status). The coat of arms is ensigned with a silver mural crown.
