About the Flag of Rio Espera

The significance of the symbolism is given in the following explanation:

  • a stripe of deep blue, representing the city's river [Rio Espera].
  • two stars, above the blue stripe, representing the two districts of Piranguita and Rio Melo. The vivid red color signifies the spirit of struggle and cooperation that should reign among the inhabitants of the region.
  • a leaf green stripe, representing agriculture
  • a yellow stripe representing livestock ranching and gold.
  • a white star on a sky blue field representing the Virgin of Compassion, the symbol of the Christian faith of a people who are convinced and ardent in their traditions.
  • the motto UNIÃO PARA O PROGRESSO [Union for progress]
  • a white field, representing the peace that should govern our labors in support of the cultural, agricultural, and religious progress of our country.
  • the stripes forming the shape of a "V," signifying final victory, crowning the efforts of each citizen of Rio Espera, in his or her journey toward progress.
The flag was created by Maria Terezinha de Oliveira Fernandes in 1979.
