The state ensign is a white, green, red horizontal tricolor with a square red canton charged with a yellow lion rampant. The canton is half the width of the flag so it covers half of the green stripe.

The flag described as the Bulgarian Flag of 1941 is called the "Flag of the War Minister" by the Flaggenbuch.
