DK Flag Book 1997 gives the symbolics of the emblem (which is the state arms) as follows:

  • The four stars represent nationalism, socialism, democracy, and secularism.
  • The plant between the tow group of stars is a sprig of jute.
  • The plant in the middle of the emblem is a 'shapla' (winter [it should be water according to Smith] lily) on stylized waves. According to Smith, the waves recall rivers, the national transportation network
  • A wreath of padi rice is surrounding the 'shapla'.
The name of the state in Bangla is written below the emblem.

Album 2000 gives the flag with a brown background (approx. Pantone 492c, C 0 - M 75 - Y 65 - K 40) and a smaller emblem, of diameter approximately 60% of the flag height.

Comparing the image here and a photo of the real thing at http://www.jatiyaparty.org/images/album/ershad.jpg , you may note differences in the shades of the emblem.

At http://www.virtualbangladesh.com/bd_flag.html this flag is presented without description, and I'd say it is really brownish or dark red. Furthermore, in this site the BD Presidential Flag has the emblem in red on a yellow disk and it has not the name of the state written below.

I had a contact in Bangladesh, a librarian in Prime Minister's Office on 18 Jun 2001:

'Thank you for your interest about our Presidential flag. Your sent flag's golden Emblem (President's Crest) is correct but the background in wrong. The original Instruction is given bellow,

circle) will have a radius of one -fifth of the length of standard and the horizontal line drawn through the middle of its width.

Colour:
a) The dark carmine colour base of the Standard will be of PROCION BROWN-H 3R 4.0% (I.C.I.)

b) The National Emblem (President's Crest) will be Bright Gold Colour.

II. Size of the Standard for building:
a) 10 Fetes by 6 fetes
b) 5 Fetes by 3 fetes
c) 2.5 Fetes by 1.5 fetes

Depending upon size of the building.
III. Size of the standard for aircraft : 12.5 fetes by 1.5 fetes

Golden Crest means Presidential Monogram which will be golden coloured."

I have renewed contact with him/her again, to gain info about any potential change (inscription - name of president - may be omitted).
