West Herzegovinian Landlords Flag (1760)

by Velid-aga Jerlagic, 24 January 2000

Here's a image I made from what I saw in Regional Archive of Herzegovina. Few days ago there was an exhibition of artifacts from the Archive in Mostar. Among numeros ottoman documentation, I saw this flag, that was used by west Herzegovinian landlords who protected Ottoman borders with Venice. The same flag also appeared in a movie called "Gazija" broadcasted two days ago on BHT television. The flag also appears in several Bosnian movies that picture Ottoman times

That flag was used by Bosniak landlords in border parts in southern and western Herzegovina. Flag was used mostly in wars, and from what I saw, the flag also accompanied Bosnian troops during the seciond siege of Hotin (Bukowina). It differs from Ottoman flag by size and direction of crescent, but also it is swallow-shaped, like some west-european jacks and ensings.

Flag of the 1830's Revolt

[Struggle for autonomy in the 1830's]
by Velid-aga Jerlagic, 13 April 1998

This is the flag used by Hussein Kapetan Gradascevic during the Bosnian war for autonomy within the Ottoman Empire. That was in the 1830's, but I'm not quite sure what's the exact date - when did Hussein started tu use this flag.
